Our History

I always believe the basic principle of life is true—the unchanged phenomenon of our lives is changing! We need to make some changes and adjustment from time to time as to face the changing world. This will indeed upgrade the hospitality and quality of childcare of the clinic and thus delivering the best medical service to our patients and their parents. We always believe, as part of the Dr Chin Childcare Clinic’s team, the spirit of ‘committed to childcare’ is always in our heart and it will never end.

With this in mind, the clinic has gone through three major renovations and upgrading since its establishment in year 2001.

Since 2001 

children-play-groundchildren play groundRegistration CounterThe first change was of course, the renovation and conversion of this preciously a tile-selling shop to a brand new pediatric clinic, way back in November 2001. That time the idea was simple, just made it a play-ground orientated clinic with the hope that the sick child could enjoy the facilities.

Booking & Patient Information management systemIn year 2006, with the sharp increment of patient number, filing and searching of patients’ cards was a headache task for my clinic nurses. With the mind of serving patient better and cut down the waiting time, and of course going towards the direction of paperless era and environmental friendly, clinic finally engaged on highly efficient clinic management software. Four computers with a printer were bought and set up at one go. To accommodate these equipments, the clinic counter needed to be changed. More Pictures...

2006 2nd Renovation

Big Tree and registration counterdoctor-roomIt was this time; the clinic was converted second time into a jungle orientated set up. This time the clinic had a big tree made from fiberglass to hang decorative staffs according to seasonal festivals, besides putting birds, insects and apples on to it. The tree was gorgeous and fantastic especially the lights were on during night times.

Although the big tree gave us a lot of sweet memory, the dusk cleaning and maintenance were not easy. Children tend to pluck the leaves and destroy the decorative staffs. Moreover, the big townhouse under the tree usually served as a playground for the siblings of the patient who were generally healthy. This activity of course created noise and thus disturbing the dispensary.

2009 3rd Renovation

Finally, after a deep consideration, the clinic made a 100% change in its whole entire set up and presentation, with only ONE aim…to upgrade the level of cleanliness and comfort for ALL – children, parents, employees and I myself!

In the month of August 2009, the clinic was temporarily moved up to the first floor as to give way for a tremendous reconstruction with the objectives as follow:

  1. To create a new separated toilet for the clinic staff
  2. To upgrade the patient toilet
  3. To restructure the partition as to maximize the space for medicine storage without compromising the rooms for consultation and giving nebulization
  4. To minimize the time and cost for cleaning and maintaining the integrity of the internal decoration
  5. To reduce the noise level by taking away the townhouse
  6. To create a space for parents to use clinic PC to go online as WIFI is available
  7. To make the area for the nursing and breast feeding more exclusive and comfortable
  8. To reserve a place for book and magazine storage
  9. To make a panel to put up my old presentation, media interview and activities
  10. To make sure the patient and parents waiting area is spacious and comfortable while they are watching movies at LCD
  11. To make ceiling speakers to play soft background music as to calm the anxious parents and patient while they are in my room
  12. To introduce the first of its kind - "Face-to-Face Open Consultation Concept" in my room. this means the parents and patients will be seat directly in front of me without any table seperating us apart. This will foster a good interaction and rapport with patient while doing my physical examination.
  13. To upgrade the level of cleanliness by enforcing the rule of shoes-off inside the clinic
  14. To make the clinic ambient feels like a home, which is cozy, warm and peaceful, so that all children have no phobia

clinic like homeTherefore, the final set-up is home-orientated decoration which incorporated in a lot of wooden furniture and texture, blended with Balinese touch-up as to bring out the natural and peaceful sensation.

We hope with the sensual and harmonious environment, the clinic and its team can serve anxious parents and ill patients a stop for relax and relief…..not only for the physical health, but also for the heart and soul !

About Clinic

Once the nurse receives your call, you will be given atentative time to which your child is required to arrive. This is to reduce your waiting time in the clinic and thus increase the efficiency of the clinic.

Parents are advised to produce the patient’s registration number (RN) during the phone booking.

For the new patients, parents need to give us following patient’s particulars:

1) Full name 2) Gender
3) Date of birth 4) Mailing address
5) Contact number 6) Drug allergy history
7) G6PD status 8) Birth weight and height

The clinic will be closed occasionally should Dr Chin is required to attend conferences. In such case, there will be a voicemail informing the calling parents the date which the clinic resumes its business 

NOTE:

  • If you are coming in for allergy testing please discontinue anti histamines for 24 hours before appointment.
  • If you are coming in for lung function testing please do not give Ventolin to your child on the morning of your appointment.
  • If attending for kidney complaints please bring fresh morning sample (bottles can be requested from Liz).
  • If you have reports that you have received from other specialists then please bring copies of them on the day.
  • If you need to cancel an appointment please do so as early as possible - ideally we need 48 hours notice.

Our Aim

Chin Child Care’s clinic was initiated based on one simple aim, and that aim is to act as the advocator and exponent for children and infants alike. Through our commitment, we hope we would be able to express and convey their cries and unspoken troubles to their respective care-givers. Therefore, decisions and actions concerning the child’s health will be made for their best interest. All unethical, unproven or non-evidence-based practice, though have been practiced for years guinea-pigin past generations, will be disregarded completely by our policy. No children will act as guinea pigs to be given whatsoever medicine, either orally or externally, through the request of the guardians. All caregivers, including grandparents, baby sitters and certain general practitioners must change in their practice and practice only evidence-based medicine in the context of childcare.

On the other hand, we will try to analyse and understand the ignorance of care-givers’ in the care of newborns. They need to practice proven scientific methods of care on babies instead of following age-old practices where they may do more harm than good.

stethoscopeBesides this, we will try to understand their concern and blind spots in taking care of a sick child. They must possess basic knowledge in handling common health problems for children, for example, acute problems like high fever, febrile fit, vomiting, diarrhea, nose bleeding as well as chronic problems like longstanding cough, constipation, fussy eating habits, so on and so forth. Our goal is to give them simplified yet helpful and relevant tips in tackling and approaching these problems in hope that all these medical knowledge would be integrated into the care-givers’ childcare knowledge, eliminating the sense of helplessness when facing problems concerning their child.

breastfeedingLastly, our most important practice is to promote preventive medicine. We strongly believe in the notion of “prevention is better cure”. Unfortunately, many busy, modern working parents of this era are oblivious about it.

Our important message to parents

  1. To promote breast feeding to the baby for at least 4 to 6 months.
  2. To recommend age-appropriate vaccines to children have higher risks in contracting illnesses.
  3. To identify certain childhood diseases as early as possible, for example, those suffering from allergic diseases which we will have to educate them on secondary prevention, namely allergen avoidance and emphasis on the importance of compliance with long term medication.

Beside this, I have to identify patients that are suffering from congenital hearing loss, autism and attention deficit and hyperactive disorder. These groups of patients need early intervention programs to enhance their capability of independency and improvement of their quality of life. Fourthly, we plan to upgrade and build our knowledge in preventive and nutritional medicine for the future.
